With Mumbai facing water supply issues, Save the Children commissioned Athena to conduct field studies to identify gaps in children's safe access to water. Covering the Mumbai Metropolitan region, Athena's scoping study identified the water supply challenges and areas requiring immediate action. In our two-part study, we looked at the existing service provision from service efficiency to availability and quality. This included assessing service performance and looking at the role of private vendors in supplementing the water supply gap. We covered the all related infrastructure - such as schools, households and commercial establishments. Along with this, we assessed the efficacy of communication and outreach activities on conveying the benefits of safe water. Our research fed into a set of feasible options and geographical locations for proposed interventions.
